Channeling Legends: A Tribute to  Cannonball Adderley

The Coffee Note presents: Channeling  Legends, a series that aims to pay homage to the great jazz masters that have left an  unmistakable mark in this music's history.  Each show will feature classic music  composed, arranged, or otherwise  performed by these legendary icons. These  jazz masters have inspired countless  musicians spanning generations and their  music will be performed by a rotating cast of local and non-local musicians alike.

Julian "Cannonball" Adderley, along with his brother  Nat Adderley, were a powerhouse  duo of the hardbop era in the 60s. Alternating often between soulful blues melodies and  blazing rapidfire notes reminiscent of earlier bebop influences, this group found a  palatable middle ground for audiences at the time, eventually pioneering a sound some  describe as "soul jazz."
